Rusty Wier - Rusty Wier (1975)

Rusty Wier was a bit of a cult legend on the Austin, Texas scene. Was, since he sadly passed away on October 9 this year. He will be missed, that's for sure. Because Rusty did make some wonderful records since 1974, holding ground somewhere in between Outlaw Country and Southern Rock, though his later albums leaned more towards Country.
This album, "Rusty Wier", from 1975 should attract quite a few Southern Rock fans, though. It's his second album and it's a really fine ride. There's a great groove throughout the music on this record and there are some cool cats playing along. Pick of the day: "Dixie Lynn". Rusty has a very distinctive voice, which I absolutely love to bits. If you haven't heard about Rusty before, this is where you get on. Fly away..

Thanks so much for including Rusty Wier on your blog, this is a great album, one of the classics. I really can't understand why he isn't that well known outside of Austin, Texas. I was very sad to hear he passed away recently and really wish I had got the chance to see him play but he will live on in his music. Lets hope someone puts these 70s albums out for proper release soon!

Karen, you're very welcome. It's about time too. And I am a bit puzzled about him being so inknown too. It's great music from a great entertainer/songwriter. Until they do get a proper release (if ever), any other Rusty albums you recommend to readers of this blog? I am going to work on some more in the near future.

Peach for peace,
Harley

"Stoned Slow Rugged" from 74 and "Don't It Make You Wanna Dance" from 75 are also classic albums. Jerry Jeff Walker covered the song "Don't It Make You Wanna Dance" and had a big hit with it and Bonnie Raitt sings it in the film Urban Cowboy, ole Rusty never did make it big but at least he got some royalties with that song! Thanks again for posting.

I am looking for years for Rustys records, as you can't buy it in Germany. I had the honour of watching one of his schows at the saxon during a vacation in Austin in the early 90s. What a show, what a man, alsways smiling, always laughing and gentle to the audience

I`m from texas and we loved rusty. He was truly a texas legend, and also a good ole boy who was generous with his time and his music. We liked all his albums, including "black hat saloon","stacked deck","stoned slow rugged","dont it make you wanna dance" and "fly away" with that awesome bob gotchall-made boot belt-buckle on the cover.Stacked deck was recorded in california and is considered the more commercial and rock-oriented of his albums, but it is nevertheless an awesomely funky album and features some of the best musicians in the business.

I agree wholeheartedly. Do you have any of the missing albums @320 kbps?
